Annarita Caputo, La sperimentazione fotografica di  Giorgio
Roster. Gli appunti e le lastre fotografiche

Giorgio  Roster  medico e docente di Chimica  patologica  e
Igiene  presso  il  Regio Istituto di  studi  superiori  di
Firenze  iniziņ  a  fotografare nel  1886  dedicandosi  in
particolare    alla   microfotografia,   alla    fotografia
stereoscopica  e  alla telefotografia. Di  lui  sono  state
recuperate    presso   il   Laboratorio    di    fotografia
dell'Istituto  statale d'Arte di Firenze una quarantina  di
lastre  negative  che  ritraggono la flotta  italiana  alla
fonda  nella  rada  di  Portoferraio  e  vedute  dell'isola
d'Elba. Insieme alle lastre sono stati rinvenuti anche  tre
libriccini di appunti sui quali Roster trascriveva  a  mano
le sue osservazioni sui materiali e sui bagni di sviluppo.


Giorgio   Roster,  who  was  a  Doctor  and  Professor   of
Pathological  Chemistry at the Royal Institute  of  Further
Studies in Florence, started taking photographs in 1886 and
dedicated   himself   in  particular  to  microphotography,
stereoscopic photography and telephotography.  About  forty
of  this negative plates that show the Italian fleet in the
roadsteads at Portoferraio and views of the island of  Elba
have  been  retrieved from the Photography Lab at  Florence
State  Art Institute. Together with these plates were found
three   small  notebooks  containing  Roster's  handwritten
observations concerning materials and developing baths.
