Le dinamiche di un luogo

La tendenza per  chiunque  fotografi  la  citta'  e'  di  spostare 
l'attenzione sulle architetture  e  i  palazzi,  le  strade  e  le 
piazze, la gente e i luoghi di ritrovo, secondo  un  percorso  che 
dal centro muove verso la periferia e le sue situazioni di degrado 
ambientale, urbanistico, architettonico, sociale.  La  ricerca  di 
Davide Virdis si distingue per  un  procedimento  inverso  che  lo 
porta  a   conoscere   la   citta'   muovendo   dall'esterno,   da 
"visitatore", in uno sforzo concettuale che mira a  recuperare  il 
contesto originario da cui la citta' nasce,  ritrovando  i  legami 
con la campagna. In questo modo, la ricerca fotografica  non  mira 
tanto a documentare una realta' quanto piuttosto a  interpretarla, 
e ne offre i codici di lettura.

The trend among those taking pictures of  the  city  is  to  shift 
attention to architecture  and  buildings,  streets  and  piazzas, 
people and their meeting places in a manner that  moves  from  the 
center  to  the  outskirts,  with   emphasis   on   environmental, 
urbanistic, architectural and  social  degradation  as  well.  The 
study by David Virdis is characterized by the fact that  it  moves 
in the opposite direction so that we learn about the city starting 
from the outside like a visitor. It is a conceptual exercise  that 
aims at recovering the original context from which  the  city  was 
born, by rediscovering the bonds with the countryside. In this way 
the  photographic  essay  aims   at   interpreting   rather   than 
documenting reality, and it provides the keys for reading it.
